Dr. Ennis explains

Understand the fullness. Then the options.

Neck liposuction removes selected fat deposits beneath the chin and along the neck. It is different from lifting loose skin or repositioning deeper supporting tissues, so the first step is identifying what contributes to the contour.

This discussion of neck lift and facelift helps place liposuction within the wider range of neck treatments.

A personal decision

Is neck liposuction right for you?

Localized fullness beneath the chin may persist despite a stable weight and regular activity. Inherited anatomy, skin quality and the distribution of fat all affect whether liposuction is likely to address your concern.

The published guide also discusses contour changes after weight loss. If loose skin or muscle laxity is prominent, removing fat alone may not provide the change you want; a neck lift may be part of the discussion.

Your treatment options

Understand the approach.
Consider the differences.

Fat beneath the chin is one part of neck contour

Neck liposuction targets selected fat beneath the skin. Loose skin or changes in the platysma muscle may require a different or additional approach.

Localized fat reduction

Small cannulas are used to remove selected fat deposits through limited access incisions. The aim is a proportionate change in contour, rather than removing as much fat as possible. Even relatively small changes in volume may alter how the neck meets the jawline.

Neck liposuction is a contouring procedure, not a weight-loss treatment. Skin response matters, and a consultation should explain whether the skin is likely to adapt to a reduction in fullness.

When lifting is also considered

If the concern includes descended facial tissues or loose neck skin, a facelift or neck lift may be considered with liposuction. Ask what each part of a combined plan is intended to change.

Deeper cheek fullness may involve the buccal fat pad. Buccal fat removal is a different operation, performed through the mouth, and should not be confused with superficial neck liposuction.

Your neck liposuction guide.

Where treatment is focused

The submental area beneath the chin is a common focus. Selected facial or jowl fat deposits may also enter the discussion, but their location and surrounding structures require separate assessment.

The practice’s guide describes small cannulas and a limited amount of fat removal. The amount appropriate for one person cannot be applied to another, and persistent fullness may involve structures that liposuction does not treat.

Maintaining the contour

The treated fat deposits are reduced, but weight changes and aging still influence the neck. Maintaining a stable, healthy weight supports a more consistent contour.

Early swelling can conceal the change. Allow healing and follow-up to guide assessment rather than judging the result in the first days after surgery.

From consultation to recovery

Consultation & procedure

Dr. Ennis evaluates skin elasticity, fat distribution and the relationship of the chin, jawline and neck. Review your medical history and discuss whether the plan is liposuction alone or combined surgery.

The published guide describes a small incision beneath the chin, followed by cannula treatment. Local anesthesia with sedation may be used for a limited procedure; general anesthesia may be discussed with combined surgery. Approximately an hour is a planning estimate, not a fixed duration.

Plan for swelling to settle.

The live guide describes bruising over roughly seven to ten days, a compression garment for the early recovery period and a possible return to work around a week. These estimates vary with the treatment and the demands of your work.

Follow your own instructions for compression, incision care and activity. Strenuous exercise may need to wait longer than desk work, and a combined facelift or neck lift changes the recovery plan. Results become easier to assess as swelling improves.

Understand the risks.

Potential risks include bleeding, infection, contour irregularity, asymmetry, loose skin, altered sensation, healing problems and anesthesia complications. Ask how your skin quality and previous procedures affect the plan and the likelihood of additional treatment.

This is not a complete list. Ask which risks apply to your health and treatment, how concerns would be managed and whom to contact during recovery.

Verify the qualifications.

Confirm the surgeon’s relevant board certification and training. Ask about their experience with facial surgery and with the specific technique being recommended.

Look at comparable cases.

Review actual patients with concerns similar to yours. Ask which procedures were performed together and when the photographs were taken. A single image cannot predict your own result.

Understand the recommendation.

Ask the surgeon to connect the proposed approach to your anatomy and goals. A useful consultation should explain alternatives, limitations and the option of postponing treatment.

Ask about safety and aftercare.

Discuss the surgical facility, anesthesia team, risks and follow-up arrangements. Know whom to contact after surgery and how concerns would be assessed.

Questions worth asking

Decide in your own time.

Neck Liposuction questions to bring to your consultation.

Can neck liposuction remove a double chin?

It may address fullness caused by selected fat deposits. A double-chin appearance can also reflect skin laxity, deeper structures or chin projection, so an examination is needed.

Does it tighten loose neck skin?

Liposuction removes fat; it does not directly remove excess skin. Skin elasticity helps determine whether liposuction alone is appropriate.

Can it be combined with a mini facelift?

The published gallery includes this combination. The procedures have different roles, and suitability depends on your anatomy and goals.

When will I see the result?

Swelling initially obscures the contour. The team will explain the expected course of healing and when it is appropriate to assess progress.
