Understanding Injectables & Fillers
Facial changes can involve more than one layer. Repeated expression may contribute to lines, while loss of soft-tissue volume can change contours and deepen folds. Fullness beneath the chin is a different concern again.
A relaxer reduces selected muscle activity. A filler adds volume. A fat-reducing injectable works on selected fat cells. Product choice follows the concern; one type cannot do the job of all three.

Relaxers for Expression Lines
What they do
Botulinum toxin type A temporarily reduces activity in selected muscles. It is commonly discussed for frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet. Product indications and suitability differ.
What they do not do
Relaxers do not restore missing cheek or lip volume and do not stop the aging process. Deep lines visible at rest may need a different or combined approach. Uses such as excessive sweating involve a separate medical assessment.

Fillers for Volume, Folds & Lips
Juvéderm for facial folds
Hyaluronic-acid (HA) gels can add volume in selected tissues. Smile lines run from the nose toward the mouth; marionette lines extend down from the mouth corners. Assessment determines whether filler in or around those areas is appropriate.
Juvéderm Voluma XC for cheeks
A consultation can assess age-related cheek-volume loss and whether a cheek filler is suitable. Voluma XC is a distinct formulation; it should not be treated as a general-purpose lip filler.
Restylane Silk for lips
Silk is an HA filler designed for lip augmentation and lines around the mouth. It contains lidocaine. Natural lip shape, tissue support and the degree of change you want guide the discussion.
Radiesse
Calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in a gel carrier provide volume and stimulate collagen production over time. Its uses and removal options differ from those of HA fillers.
Perlane and other HA formulations
You may know Perlane as an earlier name in the Restylane family. Discuss the current product and its intended treatment area with your injector. Different gels are selected for different tissue needs.
Duration & cost
The result, how long it lasts and the amount of product needed vary by treatment. Filler pricing commonly reflects the product and number of syringes. Ask for an individual quote and a follow-up plan rather than assuming a fixed number of syringes or repeat schedule.
A different type of injectable
Kybella for Selected Double-Chin Fullness
Kybella contains deoxycholic acid and treats moderate to severe fullness caused by fat below the chin in adults. It destroys selected fat cells; it does not add volume or relax muscles.
Assessment comes first
The clinician assesses whether fat, loose skin or another factor contributes to your contour. Kybella is not a general facial fat treatment, and use outside the area under the chin has not been established as safe and effective.
Treatment & recovery
Treatment involves a series of injections. Up to six sessions, at least a month apart, may be used; the number is individualized. Swelling, bruising, pain, numbness or firmness can occur. Important risks include nerve injury that can affect the smile and difficulty swallowing.
Results & pricing
Changes develop gradually. Destroyed cells do not store fat again, but weight changes and aging can still alter the contour. The number of visits affects cost; ask the practice for a treatment plan and quote.

The liquid facelift
When Treatments Work Together
A liquid facelift is a name for a customized combination of nonsurgical treatments. A plan might address selected upper-face expression lines, cheek volume and lip definition with different products.
It does not remove excess skin or offer the same structural changes as a facelift. Your clinician can explain whether one treatment, a staged plan or surgery better matches your goals.

A Plan Before a Product
Talk about your goals
Describe the areas that concern you and the degree of change you would like. The assessment considers your face at rest and in movement, skin quality, volume and previous treatments.
Review your health
Bring your medication and supplement list. Discuss allergies, prior reactions, cold sores, recent procedures, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any active skin infection. Do not stop a prescribed medicine unless the clinician who manages it advises you to.
Choose the treatment together
Your provider explains the product, the proposed areas, expected changes, limits, risks and cost. Ask whether a proposed use is FDA-approved for that product or off-label, and what that distinction means for your plan.
Plan comfort and follow-up
Numbing may be offered depending on the treatment; some fillers contain lidocaine. Confirm aftercare, when to assess the result and who to contact if something does not feel right.
After your visit
Give the Result Time to Settle
The first few days
Fullness can be visible immediately after filler, but early swelling can exaggerate the result. Bruising and tenderness may be noticeable. Allow time before important events and follow your personal aftercare instructions.
Your follow-up
Review the settled result with your provider before deciding whether more treatment is useful. Contact the team promptly about unexpected changes instead of trying to massage or adjust the area yourself.
Maintaining the result
Temporary fillers are absorbed over time. Duration depends on the product, location and individual response. Expression-relaxing injections also wear off; your provider helps plan any repeat visits.
An informed choice
Know the Risks Before Treatment
Temporary swelling, bruising, tenderness and redness can follow filler treatment. Infection, lumps, asymmetry or delayed inflammation can occur. Some filler materials can be difficult to remove.
Symptoms that need urgent attention
Rare injection into a blood vessel can damage skin or cause blindness or stroke. Seek immediate medical attention for unusual pain, skin turning white, gray or blue, vision changes or stroke symptoms after treatment.
Your product matters
Review the specific product’s patient information with your injector, including allergies, precautions and whether treatment should be postponed. Results and recovery differ between people.

Can I have filler and a relaxer at the same visit?
They may be discussed as complementary treatments. Your clinician decides whether combining or staging them makes sense, and explains the risks of the specific plan.
Does everyone need maintenance every six months?
No. Timing depends on the product, treated area, response and goals. Review the result and decide on follow-up individually.
Is Kybella a filler?
No. Kybella acts on selected fat beneath the chin. A dermal filler adds volume and a relaxer reduces selected muscle activity.
What will my treatment cost?
