Understanding Facial Injectables
Smiling, frowning and squinting repeatedly move the skin. Over time, changes in elasticity and soft tissue can make some creases more noticeable. Muscle-relaxing injections temporarily reduce selected muscle activity.
These injections do not add the volume supplied by dermal fillers, and they do not remove fat. Kybella is a separate treatment for selected fat under the chin.

A Plan Before a Product
Talk about your goals
Describe the areas that concern you and the degree of change you would like. The assessment considers your face at rest and in movement, skin quality, volume and previous treatments.
Review your health
Bring your medication and supplement list. Discuss allergies, prior reactions, cold sores, recent procedures, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any active skin infection. Do not stop a prescribed medicine unless the clinician who manages it advises you to.
Choose the treatment together
Your provider explains the product, the proposed areas, expected changes, limits, risks and cost. Ask whether a proposed use is FDA-approved for that product or off-label, and what that distinction means for your plan.
Plan comfort and follow-up
Numbing may be offered depending on the treatment; some fillers contain lidocaine. Confirm aftercare, when to assess the result and who to contact if something does not feel right.

What Happens at the Appointment?
Assessment & consent
The clinician reviews facial movement, selects the product and discusses expected changes and limitations. Each product has its own indications, precautions and dosing; they are not interchangeable.
Comfort & treatment
The treating clinician chooses appropriate sites and discusses whether cooling or numbing would help. The practice describes many injection visits as taking roughly 10–30 minutes, depending on the plan; allow additional time for consultation.
Instructions & review
You receive guidance about activities, skin care and when to check the result. Ask who to call with questions. The result is not necessarily immediate, and onset and duration vary with the product.
Recovery & expectations
After Treatment
Early changes
Mild redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising may follow injections. Recovery differs by product and treated area; a fat-reducing treatment can involve more swelling than a routine relaxer visit.
Results develop
Allow the advised interval before evaluating your response or requesting additional treatment. The goal and degree of muscle relaxation should be agreed on before the visit.
Ongoing care
Effects wear off over time. Your provider can review whether and when further treatment is appropriate. These treatments do not permanently prevent aging or every future crease.
A broader plan
Combining Treatments Thoughtfully
Some people consider a relaxer for upper-face expression lines together with a filler for lips or selected areas of facial volume. A liquid facelift describes a personalized combination rather than a single product.
Adding treatments is not always necessary. Compare the benefits, recovery and risks of each part, and ask whether a staged approach would be useful.

Discuss Risks & Precautions
Possible effects of muscle-relaxing injections include bruising, headache, asymmetry or temporary eyelid or brow droop. Tell the clinician about muscle or nerve disorders, previous reactions and all medicines you take.
Botulinum toxin products carry a warning about effects spreading beyond the injection area. Seek urgent medical help for problems swallowing, speaking or breathing after treatment. Your clinician should review the specific product information with you.

Is a relaxer the same as filler?
No. A relaxer reduces selected muscle activity; a filler adds volume in selected tissues. Assessment determines which mechanism addresses the concern.
Will my face look frozen?
The plan should discuss the movement you want to retain and the degree of change you seek. Results depend on anatomy, product, treatment and individual response; no particular appearance can be guaranteed.
Can I have treatment during my first visit?
That depends on the assessment, medical history and appointment arrangements. You can use the consultation to understand your options before deciding.
Should I stop medicines before treatment?
Bring a complete list, including supplements. Do not stop prescribed medication on your own; any change should be agreed with the clinician responsible for it.
