Breast implants are not lifetime devices and as such, Ennis Plastic Surgery is prepared to expertly handle ruptures or other issues that necessitate removal or replacement.
We know that you do not take cosmetic surgery lightly and, as we share important information that concerns your health and safety in the short and long term, you continue to get regular health exams and maintain an excellent state of overall well-being.
It is important to note that ruptures may or may not be obvious and that saline and silicone implants differ greatly in this respect. To that end, it is recommended that patients with silicone breast implants get MRIs to screen for ruptures. Allergan, the nation’s leading manufacturer of breast implants, conducts on-going research and through this deep scientific data suggests that patients get an MRI at 3 years post-breast surgery and then every 2 years after that.
There may or may not be symptoms associate with breast implant rupture. Some that have been noted in the Allergan studies include:
- hard knots or lumps surrounding the implant or in the armpit
- change or loss of size or shape of the breast or implant
- hardening of the breast
